By Team Bristol manager Catharine Hall
A total of 40 medals were won by Team Bristol, a good result considering we had a smaller team than we have had for several years.
Medals won
Gold – 19
Silver- 12
Bronze-9
Hopefully next year we will have all our regulars back fighting fit and ready to go!
We should also have another three young athletes coming up from the kids team to the adults.
Great performances from all involved, it was nice to see Jack get his first adult medal and Lucy take a gold in her very first event!
Special mention for Matt Cave with 4 golds and a silver, making him the joint trophy winner in the senior male category.
A highlight for us was the team 4x100m relay where we won our heat with ease, but just missed out on a medal. It was quite spectacular to see Vince and Matt give us a huge 80m+ lead after two legs and then Lucy from the kids team and Jack brought us home first in fine style!
We thought it was a very good Games and in general it was well run with good venues. There were issues with medal awards at some events where the event managers seemed unaware of the rules with regard to age categories and visiting foreign competitors. This is something we will address (again!) with the organisers for next year.
The gala dinner was very different and there were many aspects we thought were quite good. It was nice to be able to talk to people while we were eating rather than shout at them over the top of the PA as we usually have to!
We look forward to next year 28th-31st July in Liverpool!
It’s actually only about 20 weeks until we will be in Merseyside visiting the venues for next time!
We will also have the racquets tournament next spring, so keep an eye out for details of that.
Finally for those that don’t know, the Newcastle LOC have put in a bid to host the World Games in 2019. We hope this will succeed, it would be great to go back there for a Worlds.
