Following a generous bequest from one of our former Treasurers, Colin Hales, BAKPA was able to purchase a house near to Southmead Hospital for Renal Patients and their Carers / Families who live outside the Bristol area and need to be close to the Renal Unit.
Over the years the house has been a haven of peace to relieve the stress at what can be a very difficult time for everyone.
The 2 bed house is centrally heated and is always ready for immediate use. It is close to Badock’s wood and is about a 20 minute walk or 5 minute taxi (depending on traffic) from the hospital.
Membership required & duration of stay
For legal reasons all Renal Patients, and whomever accompanies them, needs to join BAKPA as a member.
Patients, carers or family members (who live outside the Bristol area) can stay in the house for up to one month. However, some procedures require daily hospital visits prior to transplant and in these cases, the maximum stay may be extended.
Bookings
All bookings are currently made via the renal unit staff at Southmead Hospital.
