Belfast Transplant Games 2011 Report

We have great spirit and humour in our team, not to mention a lot of talent.

We brought back a lot of memories from Northern Ireland, memories of hysterical laughter, sporting success and even an odd tear shed…

So on to the results:

This was an excellent games for Bristol and our second highest ever medal total. Everyone on the team brought home at least one medal which is nice.

In total we won fifty medals

  • 26 Gold
  • 13 Silver
  • 11 Bronze

This is nearly as many medals as last year with eight less in the team, so a great achievement. We are hopeful that numbers will be up again for 2012. We have interest from recent transplantees and of course we hope to have all our regulars back in good health, you were all missed!

The games next year will be in Medway and our hotel is likely to be in Rochester. The main event arena will be the Medway Park Sporting Centre. The games dates have been finalised as 23rd-26th August 2012. We will be sandwiched in between the Olympics and the Paralympics, its likely there will be a good deal of national publicity next year and I imagine there will be a lot of TV crews around.

That’s about it for this year, for us it all starts again in January with the first TM meetings in Kent. There will be the volleyball tournament in November and we will send details when we have them. We would also like to get as many of the team together as possible for a Xmas social, details will follow in late Autumn.

Thanks again for all your co-operation through the year, we had the odd hiccup but everyone ended up in the right place at the right time!

Look forward to seeing you all again soon!
